Nino Burjanadze – If we want to avoid the extension of this memorial and to reunite our country, first and foremost, we should speak to Russia.
While commenting on the initiative of ‘Free Democrats’ to outlaw negotiations of oppositional parties with Russia, Nino Burjanadze stated: If we want to avoid the extension of this memorial and to reunite our country, first and foremost, we should speak to Russians.”
“No matter who is the author of this initiative, such an ignorant statement in a democratic state is unimaginable. By the way, which party is ‘Free Democrats’? Is not it the party which was abandoned by its own leaders? Is not it the one the leader of which was a defense Minister engaging in provocation against Russia? I would like to remind you that Irakli Alasania’s statement over deployment of Anti-Ballistic Missiles accelerated the cooperation and signing of bilateral agreements between Russia – South Ossetia and Russia – Abkhazia. Therefore, if the new legislation is passed outlawing actions against the Georgian national interest, first in line to be punished would be the leadership of ‘Free Democrats’. It is pure ignorance and nothing else to dictate a political leader (in democratic state) who to meet and who to avoid. In spite of these statements, I will go and meet wherever, with whomever necessary to pursue the national interest of my country. I they decide to punish me for that, no problem. Future generations will evaluate my steps objectively.”
